I joined Katharine Butler Gallery in Sarasota, Florida in October. They kick off the snowbird season with a group show of all artists, and it ran from Oct. 16th to Nov. 16th. That's my piece on the top left of the postcard. I'm really excited about this gallery. I love the mix of artists (almost all colorists, as I am), and I'm thrilled to have a reason to take my painting gear and kayak down to Florida once in a while.

I'm working hard right now to create nine woodcuts based on the book of Revelation for the Presbyterian Women's Horizons Bible Study "Journeys through Revelation: Apocalyptic Hope for Today." The book will be published in March 2010 and in use nationally from 2010-2011. This commission grew out of my artist-in-residence position at Idlewild Presbyterian, my home church, and I'm excited to have this further opportunity to explore faith in my work.

I was one of three featured artists at Katharine Butler Gallery before Christmas. The show ran from Nov. 20th to Dec. 12th in Sarasota. My show is a series of beach paintings I've done both in Florida and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I've really enjoyed painting the beach over the last year. The water and light are different, and it's always nice to find a new challenge. I spent a few days painting on Anna Maria Island when I went down for the opening last week, and I'm looking forward to doing oils from the pastel studies I brought home.

"Water and Sky", an exhibition of Martha's river and ocean paintings was recently at Playhouse on the Square. It hung during the May-June run of Into the Woods.

Idlewild Presbyterian Church has named Martha the Artist-in-Residence for 2009. She is creating artwork weekly for bulletin covers, has curated a show spirit-led artwork, and is continuing to work on special projects and permanent installations through the course of the year.

"Paper and Wood", a joint exhibition of furniture by Elmore Holmes and works on paper by Martha Kelly, ran in the Ross Gallery at Christian Brothers University from August 21-October 1, 2009. It was Elmore's first gallery show, and it was a great opportunity for me to exhibit my new printmaking series of prints based on Isaiah, along with assorted oils and pastels on paper.
