Pastel Studies

Pastels were my first love, and before I started working in watercolor, they were my go-to travel and plein air medium. They're dry (no carrying solvents or canvases), they stack up nicely between two boards in your luggage, and the set up is minimal for just grabbing some color and starting once you're in place. I still love them, but they're a lot to carry, and they require an upright easel, unlike watercolors that you can do in your lap. They were such a huge part of my life, though, that it's fun to have a few of them on view here.
