I’ve been working on prints for my WAMA show slowly. Very nicely I’ve had several commissions I can’t show yet the last couple of weeks. I did get started on the color block to go behind the seagulls though. It’s got a long way to go in the water, and my first color tests have the blue way too dark, but it gave me good information to keep carving on. I worked on it more today.
I also finished the wading bird edition. I played with the colors as I went along, so there are a range of purples to pinks, just to see what people like best. With so many prints in the “in progress” stage (many more than usual for me) it felt nice to just get something finished. The backgrounds for the pelicans and the starlings are all set, and I‘ll print them on the treadle press as soon as I get a commission done on it.
I’m also still giving myself a little more time off, a little more grace than usual. Yesterday I delivered commissions, came home with some lovely Swiss chard from a garden I had painted, rode my bicycle all over midtown (including picking up new books from Burke’s curbside), and cooked myself more of the Swiss chard/chickpea stew I like so much. It was a good day, if not a very productive one. Good days are important too, and I was happy.
