I played hooky over a long weekend to go visit friends and hear some bands play in St. Louis. I drove up Saturday in time to go to the Blue Pearl, where John Higgins and Charlie Pfeffer were playing a great mix of songs and tunes. They even played a couple of ballads from my childhood. Dad would sing us a bedtime ballad each night to go with the bedtime story.
The Blue Pearl is in a gorgeous old building in a neat old neighborhood only six blocks (conveniently) from Larry and Carol's 1890's home I was lucky enough to occupy the guest room of for the duration. I woke up to a stunning over-the-rooftops sunrise each morning that flashed me back to Paris.
I was celebrating the beginning of "Inktober" where artists are encouraged to do a daily(ish) drawing in ink. It's been a fun facebook event in years past, so I got out my favorite fountain pen for a lot of the drawings.
The next day was the Shaw Art Fair, which I'd been wanting to check out for several years. Thanks to Carol for the shout out to come visit for it, and also to her and Larry for joining me and hanging out at the fair a bit. I was there latish on Sunday to hear the band Cave States, which did a fun, much more modern music show with a great mix of instruments.
