I've been to church three different ways the last three Sundays, only one of them for 11:00 worship. It did feel good to get back to “big church” early this month on World Communion Sunday. I've been pacing myself all year, and if I do too much on a Saturday I don't have extra left for church, but I've been missing seeing people. I sat in the far transept instead of my longtime spot in the balcony. The new sound system is a bit alarmingly loud, but I enjoyed the view and did a few small line drawings with my new Twisbi pen (the green ink) and a Lamy one (brown) to mark the occasion. These are the things I always have with my when I leave the house in my tiny purse. The watercolor kit is more when I know I'm going to paint somewhere, but I try to have a tiny sketchbook and a variety of pens at all times. You just never know.
The next week there was a concert in the afternoon, so I went to that instead and painted in the morning (more sitting and less standing than getting out). It was a neat concert by Dr. Kyle Blake Jones, a soprano sax player I'd heard in worship the week before, and pianist Dr. Mattieu Cognet from Julliard, and I was so glad I went. My two favorite pieces were by composers who were born when I was in college. It was a great range of music, and once again I sketched. Of course. I'll put this past Sunday in my next blog post when I get it scanned in.
